MoveOn.org Doesn’t Want Me to Go
Nov 06 2008
You gotta see this. MoveOn.org, sent me a very unique unsubscribe confirmation today. I commented on Twitter this morning about the massive unsubscribe requests they must be receiving now that the election is over. The subject line read: “Don’t Go!”.
While I admire there sales pitch here, it seems a little across the line of a unsubscribe confirmation email.
Thoughts? Creative or Crossing the Line?

It’s actually a great idea… it’s giving you the option to Opt-down in frequency. Maybe MoveOn realized that they send too many daily/triggered messages to users who then unsubscribe and are gone forever, so they let you opt-out of a daily/triggered lists and give you the option of a weekly digest.
It actually seems like a great tactic to me. I wonder how many people convert to the weekly digest?

Good Points Matt. I think the thing I am concerned about is that the framing of the message, it seems more promotional and less transactional than it should be.
It does give a very clear option of the weekly which more retailers especially could use, since they usually say “email me less frequently”

Does anyone else get the irony of the name of the company and their pleading email?
MoveOn.org…sometimes you just have to shake the dust off your feet and…move on.
Points for identifying the reason why people are unsubscribing, and giving them an option, though.
